A herd of wild elephants usually consists of thirty to fifty animals. Just as babies hold the hands of their mothers baby elephants hold the tails of their mothers when they travel. Elephants eat grass, leaves, wild fruits and bamboo shoots. They drink a lot of water. They go to a river or a lake at least twice a day. They love having a bath. One interesting thing about the elephants is that they can’t run. They can, however, walk fast. Their walking speed is nearly thirteen kilometres an hour. Although the elephant cannot jump, it can swim.
